Do you remember the recurring fires, in October 2017, in Trompica, in the upper area of Ribeira Brava?
Well today, local newspaper, JM revealed that at the time lawsuits were announced and investigations were promised. So in the aftermath of last week’s fires, reporters went out to investigate and find out what happened. Nothing! Thirty-three cases were dismissed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office who ordered for them to be archived due to lack of evidence.
I’m sure that brings comfort to those who have lost their homes, livelihood, livestock, and need psychological support for the terror of being caught up in a forest fire.
