New Working Hours Implemented

The Municipality of Funchal announced today that it will move towards the implementation of ‘flexible’ working hours.

According to a municipality press statement, a decree was sent to all CMF employees, signed by the Deputy Mayor of Funchal, “meeting the requests of many workers of the municipality, who want to work more flexible hours.”

Also, the municipality is “committed to making a strong contribution mitigating the impact of the so-called ‘rush hours.’ The measure should positively impact urban mobility and will allow workers in the municipality of Funchal to create a better professional/home life balance.

“Workers who currently work a standard 09:00 to 17:30 and are interested in working outside the usual parameters may, until the end of October, submit their application to their supervisor and choose one of the seven new options available, which vary depending on the lunch break (one hour or hour and a half),” says the CMF.

“By allowing our employees a more flexible working schedule, they will be able to, due to all types of personal reasons, find a balance between working and a family/home life.  We also feel our new way of looking at working hours will increase motivation, productivity, and quality of work,” said a spokesperson for the CMF.

The Funchal City Council also explains that another reason for this decision is to help address rush hour traffic and the impact and stress that it places on employees.
