To celebrate its 59th anniversary, a concert, dedicated to four “exceptional” classical music composers will be held by the Classical Orchestra of Madeira (CMO), on Saturday the 4th of February at 18:00 at the Congress Centre of Madeira.
Compositions by Austrian W. Amadeus Mozart, German Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Spaniard Pablo Sarasate, and Czech David Popper will be included in the anniversary celebrations, performed by 46 instrumentalists, and directed by Martin André.
According to the artistic director of the COM, Norberto Gomes, Martin André is regarded in the United Kingdom as the only conductor who has directed “all the major British opera companies, from the Royal Opera House to the English National Opera, to the BBC Concert Orchestra and the New London Symphony, from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to the Opera Nothern Ireland which, besides having collaborated with the great opera houses of all over the world, he has been a respected guest of the Madeira Classical Orchestra for some years now.”
Taking part in the celebrations is soloist cellist Levon Mouradian, an Armenian instrumentalist who, since 1989, has lived in Portugal.
Adult tickets cost 20 euros and children 5 euros. Students and trainees from all artistic areas of the Conservatory-School of Arts of Madeira have free entrance upon presentation of a student card and seating availability.
