ARDITI’s new multipurpose research vessel has completed construction and will now undergo compliance testing ahead of its formal delivery and acceptance.
The vessel, funded through the €13.95 million Ocean Technologies investment under Madeira’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), was completed on the 28th of August within the agreed deadline.
The contract was awarded on the 11th of March 2025 to the French consortium EXAIL SAS and Chantier Naval Glehen SAS following an international public tender. The contract value was €13.95 million, plus VAT.
ARDITI – the Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation, closely monitored the project through inspections at the shipyard, checking the progress of the work and its compliance with the required technical specifications.
Designed by French naval architecture company MAURIC, the vessel will operate as a floating laboratory equipped with scientific sensors. It will strengthen ARDITI’s capacity to conduct research and monitoring throughout Madeira’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Once operational, the vessel will be able to collect acoustic data in the open sea and around the archipelago. It will support new scientific projects, deepen understanding of marine ecosystems and enable advanced technology to be used during research missions at sea.
