Judicial Police Arrest Wanted Man

Yesterday morning, the Judiciary Police’s Criminal Investigation Department in Madeira tracked down and arrested a 36-year-old foreign national wanted on an international warrant from Argentine authorities, backed by an Interpol Red Notice.

The arrest happened in the municipality of Santa Cruz as part of an operation under international police cooperation, involving the Judiciary Police’s Criminal Information Unit and multiple Interpol teams.

Argentine authorities claim the suspect is part of an international criminal group involved in property crimes, specifically fraud and extortion, mostly carried out online. This operation put an end to the activities of the man, who was considered a fugitive by international agencies and was wanted for criminal proceedings in that South American nation.

The detainee will now appear before the Lisbon Court of Appeal for detention validation and the start of the extradition process.
