Rent-a-Cars Yield 108 Million Euros

The Rent-a-Car business in the region generated 108,9 million euros in 2025, through 431.492 rental contracts, confirms the Regional Statistics Office (DREM).

Further information shows that the majority of rental contracts were issued through the airport rental companies (58,9%), local rental car offices (32,3%), and hotels (8,8%).

Last year showed some seasonal shifts in car rentals. The busiest time was the third quarter, as expected, with 122,568 contracts signed. The slowest period was the final quarter, with just 88,325 requests. The first two quarters stayed fairly steady, with 102,876 and 117,723 cars hired across the region, respectively.

The number of hire cars on the Region’s roads showed an upward trend for three quarters of the year.  Figures released show that 10.789 hire cars were circulating during the first quarter of the year, 13.271 during the peak season, and 12.001 in the final three months of the year, a 9.6% fall.

The number of customers also followed a similar trend. Between January and December, 424,427 users were recorded, with growth in the first three quarters — from 97,440 to 124,249 — followed by a decrease to 84,720 in the 4th quarter, down 31.8% quarter-on-quarter.

Regarding customer origin, Portugal (20.1%) and Germany (19.5%) stood out as the main markets, followed by France (9.9%) and Poland (9.4%).

In terms of revenue, the basic rental service represented 79% of total revenue, corresponding to 86 million euros. The quarterly distribution shows a peak in the 3rd quarter (39.7 million euros), in line with the period of highest demand.
