Murder in Machico

Information is still scarce, but local newspaper JM believes that an alleged homicide took place this afternoon in Machico, in the Água de Pena area. Attending the incident where Municipal Firefighters of Machico (BMM), supported by several Public Security Police (PSP) officers, were called to open the door of a residence. Upon entering, they found a decapitated body.

Despite the appearance of the body, the authorities had to await the arrival of the coroner to confirm death, and the Judiciary Police, who are responsible for the criminal investigation and the collection of evidence.

Later this afternoon, a further press statement was released.

The son of a retired nurse is suspected of having killed his mother this afternoon inside their home. Media outlet,  DIÁRIO, was able to ascertain that the alleged perpetrator of the crime is the victim’s son, who is on the run and the target of extensive searches by the authorities.

Elements of the Public Security Police (PSP) and the Municipal Firefighters of Machico were mobilised to the scene, who, upon entering the house, found the dead woman, with deep slashes to her neck, caused by a bladed weapon.

The suspect, who has a history of mental and psychological disorders, was previously hospitalized at Casa São João de Deus.

This is the second case recorded this year in the Region involving serious episodes in a family context due to psychological instability.
