A Croatian citizen who has been missing since Wednesday afternoon in the Ribeiro Frio area has been found dead.
The tourist was part of a group of 45 Croatian citizens and was accompanied by his wife. The group arrived at Ribeiro Frio even before lunchtime, intending to walk along some of the recommended hiking trails in the locality. According to the available information, the route began at Vereda dos Balcões, then they headed towards the Chão das Feiteiras area and on to Santana.
Around 16:00, the man’s wife realised he was missing and quickly alerted the authorities. The Public Security Police search and rescue team was immediately sent to the area. Searches for the missing man continued through the night. However, the search was called off at dawn due to harsh weather, with freezing temperatures and snowfall.
Later this afternoon, the death of the Croatian tourist who was missing in the Ribeiro Frio area was confirmed. The body was found by the Public Security Police (PSP) search and rescue team, and later removed from the site by the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters (BVM).
