The Judiciary Police (PJ) is examining a semi-rigid boat found yesterday off the Madeiran coast. The vessel is often associated with drug trafficking operations on the high seas, especially in the transfer of drugs from larger to smaller vessels. The boat was located and seized by the Maritime Police in the Caniçal area, who immediately requested a narcotics investigation by the PJ.
In a statement, the Judiciary Police in Madeira coordinator, JosĂ© Matos, confirmed that the vessel is in a safe place and that the investigation has begun. Despite the suspicions associated with this type of nautical means, the official said that, so far, “no drugs have been found” on board.
Authorities indicate that the information available remains limited. The boat was found without a crew and in suspicious circumstances.
