230 People Receive Daily Food Support

The Home Support Service (SAD) currently provides meals to support 230 people in six municipalities in the west of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. This social aid is promoted by the Social Security Institute of Madeira (ISSM), under the supervision of the Regional Secretariat for Inclusion, Labour and Youth (SRITJ).

Except for the municipality of Calheta, where the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Calheta provides the service, in conjunction with support provided by the Regional Government, 230 food packages are distributed daily to people with physical or mental dependences, as well as to citizens in situations of social vulnerability who are unable to cook and provide for themselves. This support covers the municipalities of São Vicente, Ribeira Brava, Porto Moniz, Funchal, Ponta do Sol, and Câmara de Lobos.

In these municipalities, the preparation and distribution of meals is ensured by the Social and Parish Center of SĂŁo Bento da Ribeira Brava, representing an investment by the Regional Government of more than 46 thousand euros.

As part of the monitoring of this social response, the Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labour and Youth, Paula Margarido, travelled this morning to the parish of Quinta Grande, where she visited the kitchen of the Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) and the respective Day Centre, to thank all those who provided a service to the Region’s most vulnerable.
