A 32-year-old man died late Saturday afternoon following an alleged argument between mother and son that took place on Estrada dos Moinhos, in Caniço.
The 55-year-old woman was hit repeatedly by her son with a sharp object. The circumstances are now being investigated by the Judicial Police, which will collect evidence and take witness statements to clarify what happened.
However, the crime scene was macabre, due to the scattered knives on the floor and a blood-stained electrical appliance known as a Ramona.
Today, Sunday the 22nd, local newspaper, JM, reported that the woman is hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, in a serious condition, but not life-threatening.
The victim underwent surgery last night and underwent several complementary diagnostic tests, including a computerised axial tomography (CT), which ruled out the existence of extremely serious internal injuries. The most worrying injuries are located on the face, a situation that will need a prolonged period of hospitalisation and future reconstruction surgeries.
As part of their investigations, the Judiciary Police will interview the victim when she is well enough to help reconstruct yesterday’s tragedy. One of the hypotheses is that the young man attacked his mother.
The testimony of a neighbour, a nursing professional, who was the first to provide help and alert the authorities, will also be interviewed. Her testimony is especially relevant as it can provide details of the attack.
