The Regional Command of the Public Security Police of Madeira has confirmed in a press release that on Tuesday, the 10th, the Santa Cruz Police Station was contacted by local citizens stating they had found an armament box in an abandoned house.
The police arrived at the scene and confirmed that neatly packed in a box was aantiquated missile with a metallic clasp.
“To ensure the safety of everyone present and maintain all necessary precautions, the Weapons and Explosives Nucleus was quickly activated, along with a team from the Explosives Inactivation and Underground Security Center (CIEXSS) of the Madeira Regional Command. Once the proper technical procedures were carried out, the projectile was safely removed from the site and transported without incident.”
Based on the information gathered and the inscriptions on the outside of the box, it’s believed that one of the citizen’s grandfathers, now deceased, may have kept the artifact. He was the one who built the house and served as an Army Officer around 1930.
