The municipality of Funchal has invested 800 thousand in the recovery of a “space that is part of the city’s memory,” stated Funchal Mayor, Jorge Carvalho. The ‘new’ Confeitaria Felisberta, whose official opening took place yesterday afternoon, is a concession that was delivered to the Doce Convite – Pastelaria group.
This project was made possible by the municipality’s investment in the building, which involved acquiring and restoring it. The aim was to allow people to remember the space as it was known, preserving its historical charm and allowing visitors to experience the past and the story of Felisberta confectionery.
“It was a long and demanding process, but an important one. I can only speak about the last three months, the time since we took office in the municipality. That period ended with the opening of this space, bringing back to the city a memory and a place long desired by many citizens, as they often told us, referring to a site that took decades to be restored.
The concession, lasting fifteen years, was granted through a public tender with prior qualification, and the museum will be open to the public. All matters related to entry or operations will be handled by the concessionaire, businessman CĂ©sar Cunha, who expressed his delight at being part of Funchal’s history. “We wanted to leave something for the future, a legacy that stays in the memory of all Madeirans,” he said, reflecting on the challenges of bringing such an iconic project to life.

The president of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, also highlighted the investment made and the work of the businessman, who also owns the Confeitaria brand, with about 250 employees under his supervision. He highlighted above all the way in which CĂ©sar Cunha has taken advantage of and maximized the regional heritage. “It is to tell the history of Madeira in a masterful way”.
