The National Elections Commission (CNE) today (18th of January) received a complaint against the President of the Regional Government, for promoting his favourite candidate.
Andre Wemans, spokesman for the CNE, confirmed to JM the receipt of the complaint, by telephone, at the end of the morning, and that the complaint would be investigated.
The statement in question, made by Miguel Albuquerque, was broadcast by television and radio channels. After analysing the complaint, the CNE issued the following statement:
“A citizen filed a complaint about the broadcast of an interview with the President of the Regional Government of Madeira on several TV and radio stations, noting that references to the candidate he supports could influence voters’ free choice. As a result, the Commission has decided to order these channels to immediately cease airing the interview.”
