João Gregório de Freitas, 59, born in Porto da Cruz, was found dead this Monday, after being reported missing, his family confirmed on social networks.
The Municipal Firefighters of Machico were called to retrieve the body. The case is now being handled by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) and health authorities, who will conduct an autopsy to ascertain the likely cause of death.
João de Freitas had been seen in Machico, namely in the Portela area and in Maroços, which led the family to issue a locally based appeal.
According to information released by family members, the man had health problems and could have become disoriented.
