17.5 tonnes of rubbish were collected as a result of Funchal Market Night.
Compared to last year, there was an increase of 2.9 tonnes, with the Mayor of Funchal, Jorge Carvalho, noting that out of the 17.5 tonnes, four tonnes were from waste that had been separated as part of a ‘civic act.’
In a statement, the Mayor said:
“We must acknowledge the incredible effort of our teams—nearly one hundred and fifty people—who started working at 4 a.m. to ensure the city woke up to complete normality. I want to take this moment to recognise all these professionals. Without their dedication, it wouldn’t be possible for us to enjoy the sense of normalcy we have today.” — Jorge Carvalho, Mayor of Funchal
