The former captain of the Lobo Marinho (Porto Santo Ferry -PSL) has appealed to the courts to “reverse” the company’s decision to dismiss him.
“After 14 years of effective service with the Sousa Group, the last seven of which as commander of N/M Lobo Marinho, and after going on holiday last June, I received a phone call informing me that they no longer needed my services.”
“Since then, I have taken initiatives, together with my legal representative, to reverse the company’s decision and avoid reaching the current outcome.” The reason given for his dismissal, he says, is a vague attempt to disguise what in effect is an illegal termination of his contract, and that he has warned the company of the illegality of their decision. Concluding, he said, all he is doing is seeking an acceptable understanding of their decision.”
The former commander of the Lobo Marinho also says that he will demonstrate “the harassment” he says he was subjected to for having defended the captain’s authority in safeguarding the safety of passengers and the ship, when confronted with written instructions from the head of the shipping company that compromised that safety.
