The ever-popular Market Night in Funchal, held on December 23rd, will feature enhanced security this year. Around 153 police officers will be on duty, including those stationed inside the Farmers’ Market, along with several mobile ambulance points set up throughout the event area.
There will also be 140 urban cleaning personnel on the roads, supported by 23 specialised vehicles from 08:00 to 20:00 on the 24th.
Speaking at the end of the presentation, the Mayor of Funchal, Jorge Carvalho, stressed the importance of the Market Night as a moment of conviviality between families and friends, highlighting the reinforcement of security and urban cleaning.
He also highlighted the solidarity nature of the event, stating that the amount collected from the auction of the stalls, totaling 9,600 euros, will be divided between two social solidarity institutions: Acreditar and Food Aid for Dogs.
Finally, the Mayor appealed for everyone to create a joyful event and not one marred by violence or crime.
