Crew of Madeira Registered Ship – Kidnapped

The gas transport ship ‘CGas Saturn’, flying the Portuguese flag and registered in the Madeira International Ship Register, was attacked by pirates two days ago off the coast of Equatorial Guinea, resulting in the kidnapping of nine crew members. This information was shared today in a statement by the vessel’s owner, the Danish shipping company ‘Christiania Gas’.

The ‘CGas Saturn,’ built in 2003, was about 50 nautical miles west of Mbini when an armed group approached it early Monday morning as it was heading toward Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea.

According to the shipowner, nine crew members were kidnapped, and four remained onboard; one of them is injured but not seriously.

In a statement, shipowner Christiania Gas expressed deep concern over the attack on his ship and crew, stressing that his top priority is to make contact with the missing crew members to secure their safe and swift release. The emergency response team is working closely with authorities, who were informed immediately after the incident. The company remains in touch with the families of the crew, offering support during this challenging time.
