A large fire broke out yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of the Meia Serra Solid Waste Treatment Plant, in Santa Cruz.
Three fire brigades were called to assist, and at the time of reporting, there were no records of any injuries.
A source from Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM) reports that the fire broke out in a landfill site, far from any sensitive infrastructure.
Earlier this afternoon, Santa Cruz firefighters announced that the situation was under control. Still, crews have remained on site to make sure the fire doesn’t rekindle.
