Search For Missing Tourist

The search for the 31-year-old tourist who has been missing since Sunday in Madeira was suspended last night.

Fábio Castro, Deputy Superintendent of the PSP, confirmed to DIÁRIO that, due to security concerns, the search was suspended at nightfall and that it should resume this morning at sunrise.

During the day, they were engaged in search operations with the PSP Search and Rescue Brigade, in coordination with the Service Regional Civil Protection Department, but they have not detected any information on the whereabouts of the Polish tourist.

His sister, Olga Holewiński, has confirmed that she has had no contact with her brother, Igor Holewiński, since Sunday morning, when he informed her that he was going to walk alone towards Pico Ruivo.

“The last signal from the cell phone appeared in the area of Levada dos Lathes. Since then, he has not read any messages or answered calls.” In her plea, his sister asks anyone who has any information about her brother to contact the local police. She has already informed the Polish police of his disappearance.

Igor Holewiński is 1.95 m tall, has blond hair, and wears glasses. It is also known that the young man is on vacation in Madeira, accompanied by his girlfriend.

Deputy Fábio Castro urges the public to avoid entering dangerous areas in the mountains to search for the missing man and requests that they leave this task to the authorities.
