The Funchal City Council confirms that due to an athletics event, there will be restrictions and interruptions to road traffic in the city centre on Thursday, the 16th of October, between 19:30 and 21:30.
Affected roads include: Avenida Dr. Sá Carneiro, Avenida do Mar, Avenida Arriaga, Rua 31 de Janeiro, Rua 5 de Outubro, Praça do Município, Rua dos Ferreiros. Some streets will have reverse circulation, and others will operate in two directions temporarily, in order to guarantee access to strategic areas. The access tunnel to the Port of Funchal will be limited to residents, travellers, and services.
Buses from the west, north, and east zones will have alternative terminals, with changes in routes. Tourist transport may make stops and park in designated places. Some taxi ranks will be deactivated, and alternative zones will be created. Public parking will be prohibited on several avenues and streets along the route from 19:00.
The Public Security Police will coordinate all changes, ensuring road safety and the restoration of traffic after the event. The municipality recommends the use of Via 25 de Abril as the main alternative during this period.
