PSP Identify Overstay Foreigners

During September, the Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of Madeira carried out, 13 inspections at establishments and residences, which resulted in the identification of 155 foreign citizens, three arrests for irregular stay in national territory, five notifications for voluntary departure from the country, and five administrative offence notices for overstay in Portuguese territory.

One of these operations took place in the parish of SĂŁo Martinho, specifically in areas often visited by foreign citizens and regularly reported to authorities for suspected illegal residency and other irregularities, according to the authority’s statement.

This inspection operation resulted in the identification of 59 foreign nationals, 1 arrest for illegal stay, 1 notification for voluntary abandonment of the territory, and 1 notice for administrative excessive overstay in national territory offence.

PSP Madeira also informs that all unlawful facts identified were duly communicated to the entities competent to adopt the measures provided for in the Law.

Concluding, the statement read:

“The PSP will continue with its supervisory activity to ensure the rights, freedoms, and guarantees of all citizens (nationals and foreigners) who reside in national territory and in particular in the Region of Madeira.”
