The NEXT hotel will transform itself into an Asian street market where grasshoppers, crickets, and maggots reign supreme – with trolleys recreating street vendors, animation, projections, and DJs.
According to a press statement from the Savoy Signature group, “the NEXT hotel once again raises the level of boldness in Funchal with the return of the most daring dinner on the island: the 3rd edition of Bug Appetite. In a format inspired by the great Asian street food markets, the Cloud Bar, a rooftop with breathtaking views over the bay, hosts an experience for the curious and fearless: a gastronomic immersion based on insects, in a relaxed and highly Instagrammable atmosphere.
On October 25th, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the Cloud Bar transforms into a lively street market with themed vendor carts offering live-prepared dishes. The menu promises exciting, crispy, and flavorful experiences, with star proteins like grasshoppers, crickets, larvae, and larval meal, presented in creative ways such as tacos, baos, poke bowls, croquettes, kebabs, and surprise desserts. Pair these crunchy treats with a sake-focused drink menu designed to complement the evening’s adventurous flavours.
Inspired by the global trend of the ‘Bug Appetite’ concept, which has gained popularity from Thailand to Brazil and in renowned European restaurants, NEXT brings this bold experience to the island of Madeira again. The atmosphere is that of an urban festival: animation, projection of images on screen, and DJ Nelson Caires commanding the dance floor with a cool and cosmopolitan set.
NEXT is the hotspot that challenges routines and brings Madeira closer to global trends: technology, music, cocktail culture, and gastronomy with a twist. At the Cloud Bar – the hotel’s iconic terrace – the night gathers pace between flavours that break taboos and a breathtaking view.
From the rooftop, musical curatorship and out-of-the-box gastronomy, the 3rd edition of Bug Appetite reinforces the hotel’s positioning as the stage for irreverent experiences in Funchal.”
Tickets cost €55 per person and include a welcome drink, drinks during dinner, and entertainment. The menu can be assessed here: MENU
