Five canyoning practitioner tourists got lost last night in Chão da Ribeira.
Firefighters received their distress call at around 23:00, when three ground resources from the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters and a total of 12 firefighters were sent to the scene. They were accompanied by additional emergency service vehicles and teams from the Regional Command Relief Operations Brigade.
The rescue mission was concluded at 08:30 this morning due to the difficulty in finding the tourists during the night.
Luckily, there were no injuries and medical assistance was not required.
