The National Association of Movimento TVDE (ANM-TVDE), has expressed its “deep concern” about “two recent events” registered in Madeira, considering that they “seriously affect the mobility sector and compromise the population’s confidence in public institutions.”
One of the events is related to an alleged “refusal to log a TVDE driver complaint by a Funchal PSP agent”, reads a press release.
“On Saturday, the 23rd of August, a TVDE driver was the target of verbal aggression by a user of the Uber platform. When he went to the Funchal Regional Command to file a complaint, the service agent refused to register the occurrence, claiming that it was a serious ‘waste of time since it was a complaint against an unknown person.’ The driver was told to go home and cool down.
For ANM-TVDE, “this procedure, in addition to being unjustified, weakens the victim and contradicts the duty of the security forces to support those in need of their help and support.”
Taking into account the situation described above, “the ANM-TVDE demands that the Regional Command of the PSP of Madeira clarify the facts and ensure that any victim is received and protected at any post, avoiding the repetition of similar situations.”
The second “event” generating deep concern within the ANM-TVDE concerns the “blocking in the issuance of taxi licenses.”
“At the same time, new taxi trainees are being prevented from completing their certification, due to the paralysis of the licensing process at IMT-Madeira,” the statement explains, warning that the lack of document validation capacity is creating unacceptable delays and harming families who depend on the immediate entry of these professionals into the job market.”
ANM-TVDE argues that the Taxi sector should focus on resolving its internal problems rather than moaning about the TVDE sector taking their work.
