Fire on Vessel

At 5 pm this evening, the Maritime police were called out to rescue the occupants of a boat that was on fire off the coast of Madalena do Mar, Ponta do Sol, carrying a couple and their teenage boys from the Netherlands.

On speaking to journalists from DIÁRIO, the Captain of Sea and War, Bruno Ferreira Teles, confirmed that a lifeboat from the Funchal Lifeguard Station was immediately dispatched. Furthermore, civil protection resources, namely ambulances and the Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR), were immediately sent to attend to any victims. Luckily, there were none.

Although the cause of the fire is not yet known, it is believed to have been caused either by an electrical or an engine problem.
