According to the Captain of the Port of Funchal, Bruno Ferreira Teles, at 05:00 this morning, the authorities were alerted to the presence of a 50-year-old man floating in the sea next to a boat, ‘Falcão do Mar,’ anchored approximately 500 metres from Câmara de Lobos.
Immediately, a crew from the Funchal Lifeguard Station was sent to the scene. They were accompanied by officers from the Funchal Maritime Police.
The body of the dead man was retrieved and declared dead by the attending coroner.
The situation is being investigated by the competent authorities.
