The Liberal Initiative of Machico expressed concern about the lack of progress in the construction of the new municipal kennel and the new PSP police station, two projects considered “structuring for the municipality”.
In a statement, the party criticizes the lack of progress in the two works and points out that “no one has assumed responsibility.”
Regarding the kennel, which is the responsibility of the Municipality of Machico, the Liberal Initiative classifies the current conditions as “degrading,” explaining that a piece of land in Maroços was identified years ago as having the right conditions to host the new facility.”
The municipality, under socialist leadership, has remained inert. This neglect reveals the blatant lack of respect for animal welfare but also highlights the contempt the leadership has for its animal-minded citizens.Â
As for the new PSP police station, whose implementation depends on the Government of the Republic, the party regrets the lack of definition as to the location and the absence of works. It alleges that, although it was initially planned for the Manuel da Mata building. Then, for the land currently occupied by the municipal kennel, there has been no concrete progress. IL denounces a “total blockade, caused by an ineffective central government and passive local power, with direct consequences for the safety and well-being of the population of Machico.”
AntĂłnio NĂłbrega, candidate of the Liberal Initiative for the Chamber of Machico, defends the urgent construction of a new kennel, “finally giving dignity to the animal cause in the municipality,” and the creation of the new police station, “putting the safety of the people of Machico at the centre of local government priorities.”
