Today, São Vicente celebrated with the closing ceremony of the academic year of the local Senior University, held in the ‘Calamar’ space. The event was attended by the Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labour and Youth, Paula Margarido, who underlined the importance of third-age universities for continuing education and promoting social cohesion.
In her speech, the governor praised the strategic vision of the Junta de Parish of São Vicente, led by Conceição Pestana, for the creation, in 2021, of the first senior university on the North Coast of Madeira, adding:
“This University is more than a teaching space: it is a place where the soul grows, the spirit is renewed, and hope flourishes.”
The Regional Secretary also underlined the Regional Government’s commitment to consolidate public policies that promote aging with dignity, participation, and quality of life. “Senior universities are centres of knowledge, but also of affection, vitality and coexistence, values that we want to strengthen throughout the Region.”
