An all-terrain tourist vehicle crash resulted in seven injuries at the Pedregal site, in Ponta do Pargo, this afternoon.
According to what was possible to assess at the time from the president of the Regional Civil Protection Service, Richard Marques, five people have minor injuries, and two are seriously hurt.
The vehicle is in an inaccessible area, so the rescue is being carried out using ropes. The helicopter was also activated, but later returned to base.
A total of 14 vehicles and 46 operatives were dispatched to the site, including the Volunteer Firefighters of Calheta, Funchal Firefighters (ambulance), the Regional Medical Emergency Service (SEMER), the Portuguese Red Cross, as well as the Public Security Police.
Another serious accident this afternoon completely gridlocked the highway, forcing its closure later on.
The accident involved a truck, a business car, and several vehicles. The accident resulted in at least five injuries.
At the time the article was written, the severity of the injuries was not known, but several vehicles from the Funchal corporations – Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, Funchal Firefighters, and the Portuguese Red Cross, and several extrication vehicles were called out to the site.
Further reports indicate that several other crashes took place on the region’s roads today.
