Tree Planting Initiative

The Madeira Wine Company (MWC), in partnership with the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN), carried out a reforestation action under the ‘Carbon Offset’ project. 230 Indigenous trees, including Loureiros, Barbusanos, Faias das Ilhas, and Tis, were planted, reinforcing the joint commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing the ecological footprint.

The ‘Carbon Offset’ project, promoted by the IFCN, aims to allow interested entities to offset the carbon emissions resulting from their activities through reforestation initiatives and sustainable management of forest areas. In this partnership, the IFCN provided the plants, the space, and the necessary technical support, while the MWC, with the active participation of its employees, ensured the execution of the work and commitment to the maintenance of the planted trees. “This collaboration exemplifies the importance of synergy between the public and private sectors in promoting responsible environmental practices,” highlights the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment.

“This initiative not only contributes to the recovery and enhancement of forest heritage and the preservation of biodiversity, but also raises awareness in the community of the importance of environmental conservation.

The MWC and IFCN thus reaffirm their active role in building a more sustainable future for the Region,” concludes the statement.
