A Public Security Police (PSP) patrol found two intoxicated women in the gardens of the Casino Park Hotel, Funchal in the early hours of this morning.
It was just after 4:00 am when the agents spotted two foreign tourists lying in one of the gardens near the hotel’s car parks. Both were very drunk and unable to react to the police officer’s presence.
Faced with the situation, the police tried to help the young women, but quickly realised that specialised support would be needed, as one of the women was unable to stand.
Suspecting serious alcohol intoxication, the agents called the emergency services, and a team from the Portuguese Red Cross was mobilised to the scene.
After assistance was provided at the scene, a 24-year-old woman, who was severely intoxicated was transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, where she was admitted to the emergency department and was under medical observation.
Her friend, about the same age, was also sent to hospital, but did not need medical intervention.
