A man was detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) in Funchal, this Saturday morning, in the Viveiros area, after threatening several people with a knife in hand inside and outside a supermarket.
Witnesses reported moments of panic and confusion, with the individual displaying a sharp object and intimidating customers and passers-by. Despite the fearful atmosphere, there were no injuries.
The Public Security Police (PSP) quickly responded to the alert, deploying several officers to the scene, including a Rapid Intervention Team (EIR).
After the PSP created a security perimeter, the suspect was immobilised and detained. The man was taken to the PSP’s Regional Command, and will remain in custody until he is presented before a criminal investigation judge, scheduled for Monday.
