Rain Reached Red Alert Levels

The intense rain yet again reached red warning levels in Areeiro. According to the IPMA weather station, the early accumulated rainfall was 82.6 liters per square meter in 6 hours, with the levels steadily increasing.

Other weather stations also recorded record rainfall values – Santa Cruz, Pico Alto, Santo da Serra, São Vicente, and Porto Moniz.

Furthermore, roads were closed due to extreme climatic conditions and hazardous materials littering surface areas.

In all, storm Martin caused 130 incidents including damaging bridge structures, leaving one family homeless in Ponta do Sol due to a wall collapse, accidents, including two tourists being hit by falling branches, landslides, and general storm chaos.
