Acid Attack Perpetrator Detained

A 46-year-old man suspected of throwing acid into the face of a 25-year-old individual last Saturday, in Santo Amaro, has been remanded in custody.

The suspect was detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Saturday night and was presented in court on Monday for the first interrogation before the Criminal Investigation Judge (JIC).

However, due to an incident that day (he jumped out of the courtroom window), the investigation was interrupted and postponed to Wednesday afternoon, when the JIC heard the defendant again.

At the end of the court hearing, given the attack’s seriousness, the judge ordered that the defendant remain in custody at the Funchal Prison until the case goes to court.

The suspect is charged with grievous bodily harm.

It should be recalled that the victim, a 25-year-old man, was hospitalized last Saturday with acid burns to his face and eye area.
