ADN Madeira has once again criticized the stance of the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, regarding the tourism sector. According to the party, Albuquerque “boasts” about the increase in overnight stays in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, but “systematically ignores” the workers who make this growth possible.
The regional leader of the party, Miguel Pita, recalls that sector professionals are undervalued. “These men and women ensure that hotels, restaurants, and tourist services operate efficiently and effectively. However, they continue to be forgotten by a Government that governs for the elites and despises the common citizen.”
The president of the Regional Government lives in a bubble of glass where, apparently, everything is fine. But the reality on the ground is different. Inflation erodes household purchasing power, costs of living increase while those working in the sector see their salaries remain stagnant. What is the point of having more tourists if the Madeirans continue to struggle to make ends meet? Miguel Pita, ADN candidate
The party accuses Miguel Albuquerque of favouring large companies and economic groups that profit from tourism “at the expense of a devalued and poorly paid workforce.”
“It is time that the government defends the working people, guarantees decent working conditions, and recognises that good tourism is based on respected and fairly paid workers.
