The Funchal city public surveillance system will start operating in May.
As announced in 2022, the system was initially scheduled to start operating in the first half of 2023. However, technical and bureaucratic difficulties, such as the revocation and launch of a new public tender, extended its entry into operation.
At the moment, the project has been awarded to the consortium Soltráfico and Wavecom. The initial ordering and purchase phase is underway. In addition to the cameras, the purchase of cables, routers, and other technical materials is on order.
The purchase and installation costs are estimated at 840 thousand euros, excluding VAT, and with 22% tax the final bill will be over the million euro mark.
