The Regional Secretariat for Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment announced that the financial support granted to animal associations, through programme contracts signed in 2024, totals approximately 260 thousand euros.
According to a government note, this amount is “intended to reinforce the work carried out by these entities and reflects the Regional Government’s commitment to promoting animal welfare and supporting initiatives to protect animals in vulnerable situations.”
The following associations are part of the programme:
– AMAW – Madeira Animal Welfare
– AMAIS – Madeira Animals
Association- PATA Association – Because Animals Also Love Each Other
– ASARB – Animal Support Association, Let’s Go There Madeira Animal Association
– AAMA – Friends of Animals Association of Porto Santo
– Animal Defense Association MAS Madeira Sanctuary
– F4P Association – Friends of 4 Patinhas
– Society for the Protection of Domestic Animals
– AAAC – Association Helps to Feed Dogs
– ANIMAD
Association – Several associations of cattle breeders.
Although the conclusion of some contracts is still underway due to administrative procedures, the Regional Secretariat ensures that all the support promised will be provided. This funding aims to sustain essential projects such as foster care, sterilisation, veterinary care, and the promotion of responsible adoptions.”
Review of support and consultation of associations
The Regional Government also announced that it has decided to start a review of the financing model for animal cause entities. The Regional Director of Veterinary and Animal Welfare has already started listening to the associations, with the aim of identifying challenges, taking on board suggestions, and adjusting future support to a more effective and sustainable model.
According to the Regional Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment, this review aims to ensure that the financial resources made available respond directly to the needs of the associations and enhance their results on the ground.
Commitment to animal welfare
The financial support granted in 2024, combined with the future review of financing mechanisms, is part of the Regional Government’s strategic policy for the promotion of animal welfare and the fight against abandonment. “Working in partnership with these associations is essential to create a more humane and sustainable future for the animals of Madeira and Porto Santo,” said the Regional Secretary.
“Associations play a crucial role in protecting animal rights and raising awareness in the community, being indispensable partners in this joint mission,” concludes the government.
