On Friday the 13th of December at 16:00 in Barreirinha, Funchal, a basalt piece of art in honor of local cat ‘Jackson’ will be unveiled.
The cat was a frequent visitor to Largo do Socorro, in Santa Maria Maior, until he tragically passed away on the 13th of December 2020.
This initiative is carried out by a group of local people and the ceremony will be attended by the Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labou,r and Youth, Ana Sousa.
“The work in question is in basalt, a raw material that exists in abundance in the Region and, in this way, also differentiates itself from the existing sculptures in Funchal and the island. The execution of this work, by José (Pepe) Baptista, took one month to sculpt and involved search after search of local streams until he found the ideal stone.
