Black smoke billowing out from the outpatient area of the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital triggered teams from two fire brigades on Tuesday morning, shortly after 10 am.
According to what it was possible to ascertain, the fire is thought to have originated from a pile of pallets that were left in the parking area. The Funchal Firefighters and the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters were at the scene.
Luckily the fire was quickly extinguished.
Still, it did cause some excitement on the road as drivers, including myself, were suddenly besieged by fire trucks and other emergency service vehicles.
