Since 2018 thousands of objects have accumulated at the airport, these have either been confiscated or part of the airports ‘lost and found collection. In order to make space and raise funds the local Public Security Police will auction many of the items. Their last sale raised 4,652 euros.
Speaking to journalists, Commissioner João Góis says that thousands of objects are found every year. And they are varied. The vast majority are personal items, such as wallets, documents, keys, or mobile phones. However, the Public Security Police in Madeira have also collected unusual objects, such as televisions or bicycles.
The auction will take place next Saturday, the 9th of November at the Regional Command of Madeira (Funchal). No time has been specified.
The proceeds from the sale will be given to charitable institutions.
