Classical Orchestra Concert at Royal Savoy Hotel

The “Madeira Camerata” String Orchestra, under the musical direction of violinist Norberto Gomes, is holding a concert tonight (12th of September) at 21:00 at the Royal Savoy Hotel.

“With this concert, the Madeira Camerata will provide listeners with a journey through some of the periods in the history of music. From the Baroque period characterized by its exuberant, emotive, and ornate aesthetic, which left a lasting legacy and profoundly influenced classical music and art in general; and the modern period, which began in 1900 to the present day, marked by a significant transformation that reflects the social, cultural and technological changes of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first century. As for the Baroque period, the Madeira Camerata will perform works by composers Johann Pachelbel, Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi; and for the modern period works by the composer Rui Soares da Costa and the arrangement by S. Aslamasyan of the work “Três Peças” by the composer Komitas.

The Madeira Camerata, an internal ensemble of the Classical Orchestra of Madeira, has, as its main objectives, the interpretation of repertoire for string orchestra and the dissemination of Portuguese music written for this type of formation. Created in 1997, it has represented the Classical Orchestra and the Autonomous Region of Madeira abroad, by participating in international music festivals.

This String Orchestra has played with several conductors and soloists, among them Jaap Schröder, Luís Izquierdo, Roberto Pérez, Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro, Carlos Guilherme, Luís Andrade, Milko Pravdic, Ilya Grubert, António Carrilho, Bárbara Dória, Lyudmila Voynarovska, among others. He has performed in concert at the Madeira Music Festivals of 1998, 1999, and 2000, at the Macau Arts Festival, and also at the Ferrol Music Festival, in Galicia (Spain). He also performed concerts in Porto and at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB), in Lisbon. In 2000 he toured several Spanish cities, including Madrid, where he performed at the National Auditorium with live broadcast for Radio Clássica de España.

In a press statement, Norberto Gomes adds:

We count on your presence that, as always, we are happy to play for you with the joy and energy that is characteristic of us, where the quality of the service is combined with the most beautiful and deep emotions that the musical works will have to offer you.”

Tickets: Priced at 20€ each and are on sale at the Royal Savoy’s reception (the ticket office is the sole responsibility of the Hotel).
