Notices and tapes telling people of the closure of the pedestrian route of Vereda do Areeiro are being ignored by tourists, who simply step over the barriers in their determination to do as they please.
A video sent to the JM head office shows several people ignoring a barrier placed at the beginning of Vereda do Areeiro; a trail that the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation has said will remain closed due to safety reasons.
Other closed pedestrian routes, include: Vereda da Ilha, Vereda do Pico Ruivo, Vereda da Encumeada, Vereda do Urzal, Levada do Barreiro, Levada do Moinho, Caminho Real da Encumeada, Caminho do Pináculo and Folhadal, Vereda do Jardim do Mar, Levada da Azenha, Glaciar do Planalto and Levada da Rocha Vermelha.
