‘Funchal Folk – Arraial do Mundo’ is back and is a cultural event included in the festivities of the Day of the City of Funchal and the Parish Council of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
This year the theme chosen was ‘O Arraial do Monte,’ which aims to portray the festivities of the parish.
The ‘Funchal Folk – Arraial do Mundo’ aims to promote the richness and diversity of folkloric traditions across the world. “This event not only provides a platform for cultural expression, but also fosters friendship and understanding between peoples of different origins,” explains an organisation spokesperson.
This event has the participation of groups from Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, and Portugal (Ponte de Sôr), and the latter group will be accompanied by two Councilors of the Municipality of Ponte de Sôr, Councilor for Associativism and the Councilor for Environment and Youth.
The Event Schedule is as follows:
· 19th:
Location: Municipality Square
17:30: Opening Ceremony with the presentation of the participating groups
Location: Immaculate Heart of Mary (churchyard)
21:30: Performance of the toccatas of each of the participating groups
· 20th
Location: several streets of the City
10:30 am: Arruada (parade of groups departing from Praça do Município, Rua dos Ferreiros, Rua do Aljube, Avenida Arriaga, Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias). During this parade, the groups will do some dances at some points (Largo do Chafariz, Between the Sé Church and the João Gonçalves Zarco Statue and in front of the Theater)
· 21st
Location: Immaculate Heart of Mary (churchyard)
21:00: Performance of groups from Lithuania, the Canary Islands, Mexico, and Ponte de Sôr
· 22nd
Location: Immaculate Heart of Mary (churchyard)
21:00: Performance by groups from Poland, Latvia, and MonteVerde Folklore Group
· 23rd
Location: Pier 8 (Avenida do Mar e das Comunidades Madeirenses)
20:30: Parade of the various groups departing from various parts of the city towards Pier 8
