Largest Sargassum Haul – Ever

APRAM, with the support of SANAS Madeira and the Municipality of Porto Moniz, removed until 15:00 yesterday, almost 80 cubic meters of sargassum from the waterfront. This haul is the “largest amount of seaweed so far collected in a single day, in the region.”

In a statement, APRAM explains that “this greater quantity had to do with the increase in the resources made available and, above all, with the collection mechanisation that began on Thursday, the 16th of May, which allowed for the collection of a total of 143 cubic meters of sargassum.”

The statement concludes by saying that the operation included sea pollution barriers, two flatbed vehicles, an APRAM vessel – sent by land to Porto Moniz – and 9 operatives.
