This year, the Autonomous Region of Madeira will commemorate Navy Day with a series of activities scheduled from the 18th to the 20th of May.

The first day begins, in partnership with the National Maritime Authority, with the opening of the lighthouses of Ponta do Pargo and São Jorge from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and with the Open Day in partnership with the Funchal Naval Club.

On May 19th, the Navy Day Commemorative Regatta will be held in partnership with the Regional Canoeing Association of Madeira.

The 20th of May allows naval enthusiasts to visit the NRP Zaire from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Sea baptisms for children from local communities in the interior of the island of Madeira will take place between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm, both activities will take place in the Port of Funchal.

Navy Day is celebrated on the 20th of May, in honor of the great feat of Vasco da Gama who, on this day, in 1498, for the first time in history, connected Europe to the East by sea, with his arrival in Calicut, India.
