Star Riders Help Disadvantaged Children

Star Riders Portugal, supported by the delegation of Madeira, organizes the solidarity event ‘EGG RUN’, which takes place in the Region this Sunday for the island’s disadvantaged children.

Part of this initiative includes a collection of school supplies, food, hygiene products, clothes, and shoes for children, with donations being given to the Madeira Motorcycling Association, Rua do Brasil, nº 66, in Nazaré, or directly in the Shelter of Our Lady of Fatima, on the Caminho do Poço Barral, in front of the old AKI.

On Sunday, the big day begins with the bikers meeting at 09:00 in Barreiros.  They will depart at 09:30 to the Shelter of Our Lady of Fatima, followed by the ceremonial delivery of donations to the institution.

The programme is followed, at 10:30, by a bike ride with the children, being a ‘Biker baptism’ for some children and young teenagers, since for many it is their first experience riding a motorcycle. A stop is planned at Pico da Torre, to enjoy the beauty of Câmara de Lobos Bay, and at the Boca dos Namorados Viewpoint, where the Star Riders will also provide a 4×4 jeep tour. This year, there will also be the well-known hairdresser/barber, Daniel, for those who want to get a haircut.

This is followed by a moment of conviviality, and the sharing of a traditional lunch.  After lunch, the children will be taken on a trip and finish up eating ice cream.

On a national level, every year Star Riders Portugal chooses a location where, at Easter time, its members deliver sweets, toys, and other souvenirs collected throughout the country to children.

The club has existed since 2006 and during the same year, this project was created. “We soon realized that there was a lot to do. The predictions are confirmed and the EGG RUN is already an important event and respected by the biker community,” adds the Madeiran sub-delegate,  Andreia Caetano, who seeks support and partnership with several entities to be able to provide the best to children in this event.

In Madeira, the Star Riders have been supporting the ANSF Abrigo da Nossa Senhora de Fátima annually since 2016, with the precious collaboration of other bikers, friends, and sympathisers.
