Labour Day celebrations are back, and on the 1st of May the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Inclusion and Youth, is promoting a series of activities aimed at honouring the Madeiran worker.
The highlight of the celebrations, scheduled for 21:00, in Santa Catarina Park, features the performance of the international artist Cuca Roseta, accompanied by the Military Band of Madeira Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Lieutenant Luís Afonso.
Fado singer, Cuca Roseta, who has released seven edited albums, in collaboration with some of the most prestigious producers in the world, has had a hugely successful career, having sung on the most important stages in the country and has performed in more than 40 countries around the world, including performing alongside Julio Iglesias, Djavan, David Bisbal, among many others.
At 19:00 Madeiran band Pilar de Bânger, founded in 1988 will open the show.
With a wide range of original songs under the rock Portuguese musical style, this band comprises six Madeiran artists, Jorge Dilara Martins (keyboard), Bruno Freitas (drums), Vítor Paulo Freitas (bassist), Filipe Pereira (guitar), Miguel Apolinário (guitar) and Denis Rodrigues (vocals), and who are a renowned and consolidated band.
Activities distributed throughout the Island
At midday, the Monument to the Madeiran Worker, located on Avenida Sá Carneiro, becomes the stage for the traditional act of laying flowers. A ceremony that honours Madeiran workers, and will be presided over by the Regional Secretary for Inclusion and Youth, Ana Sousa. She will be accompanied by the Regional Directorate of Labour and the Regional Directorate of the Regional Authority for Working Conditions, to which the representatives of the Employers’ and Trade Unions sitting on the Permanent Commission for Social Dialogue of the Autonomous Region of Madeira are invited.
Throughout the day, several activities promoted by sports associations will take place, which have the support of the Regional Government, including the 1st of May R.A.M Grand Prix. Athletics Association, in Ribeira Brava, the ‘Professor Eleutério d’Aguiar’ Football Tournament – 2024 Edition – Commemorative of the 99th anniversary of the 1st of May Sports Club and the 2024 Madeira Regional Motocross Championship Race, at Pista das Carreiras, Camacha.
Also noteworthy is the opening of the leisure area of Montado do Pereiro, which will be available to the population with picnic areas and the usual food and drink stalls. The space will be open between 10:00 – 18:00.
