The Funchal City Council, through its Animal Welfare Unit, is promoting from today the 1st of April and the 21st their 2nd Pet Adoption Campaign. Images and a brief description of the cats and dogs up for adoption will be posted in the three main shopping centres: Plaza Madeira, Madeira Shopping and Fórum Madeira (8th – 21st of April).
According to the councillor responsible for the Animal Cause, Nádia Coelho, “we used images of the animals, almost life-size, accompanied by a text about their history and some of their characteristics. There are about 70 animals, dogs and cats, which meet the adoption criteria and are perfectly adaptable to new environments.”
Nádia Coelho also mentions that “in this way, and with the fundamental support of the 3 Shopping Centres, we intend to contribute to the increase of adoptions at the Kennel, allowing a happy ending to many more animals.” It should be noted that, in 2023, 293 animals were adopted at the Vasco Gil Municipal Kennel, however, at the moment, 365 animals are still under the management of the Funchal City Council.
